Cross-file VLOOKUP means exact file paths, absolute ranges, and a formula that silently breaks if a column moves or the other file closes. One typo and the whole column fills with #N/A, and you still can't easily see which lookups failed. For a one-off "are these 500 IDs in that export?" it's a lot of setup.
