Open large CSV files without Excel crashing

Excel gives up at 1,048,576 rows and chokes on big files long before that. Gridzu opens CSVs with millions of rows in seconds — on your own PC, private and local.

Why Excel can't open your big CSV

A spreadsheet loads the entire file into memory and hard-caps at 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns — anything past that is silently cut off. Even a file well under that limit, once it reaches a few hundred megabytes, makes Excel freeze, spike your RAM, or throw "not enough memory." That's not your computer's fault; it's how spreadsheets are built.

How Gridzu handles it

Gridzu runs a fast native data engine designed for large tables, so it stays smooth where a spreadsheet stalls. Open a giant export from your database, CRM, or analytics tool and scroll, sort, filter, and clean it without the spinning cursor. Everything runs locally — your file is never sent to our servers.

Open a large CSV in three steps

  1. Download Gridzu for Windows (about an 11 MB install) and create a free account.
  2. Drag your CSV onto the window — or click Open a file and pick it.
  3. Work with it instantly — sort, filter, find duplicates, compare it to another file, and export clean CSV back out.

More than just viewing

Once your big file is open, Gridzu gives you point-and-click tools that would take formulas or scripts elsewhere: remove duplicates, trim and standardize text, delete rows by condition, compare two files to spot what changed, and bulk-look-up values across every table you have. No SQL, no macros.

Private by default

Your CSV is opened and processed entirely on your computer. Gridzu never sends your data to our servers — the only thing our service stores is the email you sign in with.

Large CSV files — FAQ

Why can't Excel open my large CSV file?

Excel caps worksheets at 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns, so anything larger is silently truncated. Even below that limit, files of a few hundred MB make Excel slow to a crawl or run out of memory, because it loads the whole workbook into RAM. Gridzu uses a native data engine built for large tables, so it stays responsive on files with millions of rows.

How large a CSV can Gridzu open?

Files with millions of rows and hundreds of megabytes open smoothly — well beyond Excel's 1,048,576-row limit. Performance depends on your PC, but Gridzu is built to stay fast where a normal spreadsheet freezes.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Gridzu opens and processes CSV files entirely on your own computer — nothing is sent to our servers. Your data stays on your own machine.

Is Gridzu free?

Yes. Gridzu is free to download and use on Windows and macOS.
