Guide

Back up & sync with GitHub

Keep a private, off-computer copy of your data — and pick it up on another machine. It takes about two minutes, and there's nothing technical to set up.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Your data goes to your own private GitHub account — not to us. Gridzu never sees or stores your files on its servers. You choose when to back up, and you can disconnect at any time.

Step 1 · Get a free GitHub account

GitHub is a free service for storing files privately online. If you don't already have an account, you'll need one — it's free and takes a minute.

Step 2 · Open the GitHub panel in Gridzu

In Gridzu, open the Tools menu and choose GitHub. A panel slides in from the right.

Step 3 · Connect with GitHub

1

Click "Connect with GitHub"

Gridzu shows a short code like WDJB-MJHT and opens a GitHub page in your web browser.

2

Enter the code on GitHub

On the page that opened, type (or paste) the code and click Continue. If you're not already signed in to GitHub, it'll ask you to sign in first.

3

Click "Authorize"

GitHub asks if Gridzu can access your account. Click Authorize. That's it — you can close the browser tab.

Back in Gridzu, the panel updates to "✓ Connected as @yourusername" within a few seconds. You're connected.

Step 4 · Back up your data

Under Back up to repository, leave the suggested name (or type your own — a "repository" is just the private folder your backup lives in). Then click ⬆ Back up. Gridzu creates the private repository automatically the first time and saves your workspace to it.

Step 5 · Use it on another computer

Install Gridzu on your other computer, open the GitHub panel, and Connect with GitHub the same way. Type the same repository name, then click ⬇ Restore to pull your data down. Back up from one machine, restore on another — that's how you sync.

Troubleshooting

The code expired or nothing happened

Codes are valid for about 15 minutes. Just click Connect with GitHub again to get a fresh one.

The browser didn't open

Click Open GitHub in the code box, or go to github.com/login/device yourself and enter the code shown in Gridzu.

How do I disconnect?

Open the GitHub panel and click Disconnect next to your username. That removes the connection from this computer; your backed-up data stays safe in your GitHub account.

Do my teammates need this too?

Only if you want to share data with them. Each person connects their own GitHub account the same way. Solo backup needs just you.
