A pay run gathers who gets paid what for the period and shows you before anything is written. Payslips carry the arithmetic. Approving is your decision, posting to the books is a second one, and every figure can be traced back to the rate that made it. Gridzu itself is free; the suite of four plugins is what you pay for.
Withholding and employer taxes are percentages you set per employee, from the worksheet or your accountant's letter you already have. Gridzu applies them, shows its working, and never silently changes them. It does not compute government withholding tables — a wrong table quietly applied to a year of paychecks is a mistake nobody should have software make for them.
With the CRM installed, the time already recorded against tickets becomes the hours paid — pick the period and the run adds them up per person. Salaried people get their period amount. Nobody retypes a timesheet that already exists.
Work the run out first: every person, their hours, gross, withheld, employer taxes and net, on one screen. An hourly person with no hours in the period is named rather than silently dropped. Nothing is saved until you say so.
Net is gross minus withholding as a rule of the table itself — a paste or an import gets the same arithmetic the screen gets. A typed net disagrees with the two numbers beside it the first time either is corrected, so there's no way to type it.
With the Accounting plugin, an approved run raises one journal entry: wages and employer taxes as costs, net pay owed to your people, withholdings owed to the agencies. It goes through the same balance check every invoice goes through, respects closed periods, and can't post twice.
Already running the CRM? Payroll adds its pay settings to the employees you already have — it doesn't make a second list to drift out of step. On its own it makes what it needs and still works.
It is the record-keeping half of payroll. Who was paid, for what period, at what rates, with every figure traceable — and the ledger entry that proves it, if you run the Accounting plugin beside it.
It is not a tax engine, and it doesn't file anything. Withholding rates are yours to set and yours to check; Gridzu applies them and shows the arithmetic. It computes no statutory tables, submits nothing to any agency, and nothing here is tax advice. Many businesses run a service for filings and keep their books here — that division of labor is the intended one.
It is not a vault. Pay data lives in your own tables in your own file, protected the way the rest of your workspace is: guarded columns, review, history, the audit record.
